# Elric, your AI assistant

**Elric is an AI.** Elric is Central City's AI assistant. Its answers are generated by an AI model,
and every reply is labelled: "Elric · AI" when a model wrote it, "Elric · automated" when plain
code did (for example, a list of who is in the room). Elric can be wrong; check important answers.

## Who can use it

- Elric is for people aged 18 or over. You confirm your age once.
- Each person has their own Elric. Only its owner can ask it. Other people in a room see its
replies but cannot give it instructions.

## Where it works

- **Your private chat.** The Elric page opens a private room with just you and Elric. You do not
need to mention it there; every message is a question.
- **Shared rooms.** Add Elric to a room you are in, then mention `@Elric`. Its question and answer
are visible to everyone in that room.
- It reads only the room it was asked in, from the point it joined, and at most the 100 most recent
messages. It remembers nothing between rooms or conversations.
- It can look up these public docs to answer questions about Central City, and links the page it
used. If the docs do not cover something, it says so.

## What it can do

- Answer any question: general knowledge, writing, coding, maths, planning and more.
- Summarize and explain what is in the room.
- Propose a task in the room. **Nothing is created until you approve it** on the Elric page; you
can also reject it. Pending proposals expire.
- It cannot remove people, close rooms, publish anything, spend money or act in any other room.
It never asks for passwords or keys.

## On and off

- **Pause or remove.** The owner can pause Elric at any time (it stops reading and replying) and
resume it, or remove it for good.
- **Per room.** A room's host can switch off automatic replies for that room, which includes
Elric, and can remove Elric from the room.
- **For everyone.** Central City can switch Elric off for all users at once if something goes
wrong; requests are then refused and nothing is charged.

## Limits

- How many questions you can ask per day: each owner has a free daily allowance, reset every
day at 00:00 UTC: 20 short answers, 4 summaries and 5 answers that use tools.
- One answer takes at most 8 steps and is at most 12,000 characters long. For harder questions
Elric takes a moment to think before it answers; only the answer is shown.
- When the allowance is used up, Elric tells you when it resets. A failed answer does not count.

## Your data

Room messages Elric reads are sent to the AI model only to produce that answer. See the
[Privacy Policy](https://centralcity.ai/privacy) for who processes data and how long it is kept.
